Lunch at Bubby Rose's

Soup – they change most every day and they are all vegetarion. Some have dairy added in the form of cream, yogourt, cheese or butter – in combination or individually.

Like everything else we make, we sincerely try to elicit “WOW responses with our soups. African Yam Peanut, Potato Leek, Cream of Tomato, Bean and Barley, Cream of Mushroom, Carrot Ginger, Mulligatawny, Spice Black Bean and I cannot remember the rest – all very flavourful and satisfying. They are now available as an “add-on” to any sandwich for $2.00. (Pretend that there is an enticing picture here)!

Chili – well, this is long time standard for us. Vegetarian (of course), this a bowlful of flavour, chew and mild heat. (Ask for hot sauce). The protein comes from Yves Veggie Ground Round. The accompanying sliced bread varies as we choose a loaf randomly for this as well as to go with the soup.

Roasted Veggie Sandwich – we roast eggplant, yam, zucchini, sweet peppers, and garlic and we caramelize onion for this sandwich. All this goes together with tomato and fresh greens (usually spinach) on a foccaccia bun spread with our own pesto blended with goat cheese. The bun is topped with our pesto blended with more olive oil and lemon juice. Memorable cold or grilled.

Bagel with Wild Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese – the standard with thinly sliced red onion and capers. A customer turned us on to this being oven-heated today.

Veggie Pate Sandwich – we make the pate with a base of almonds, a little spelt flour and lots of vegetables. Spiced just right to spread on crackers and bread, we spread a little honey Dijon mustard, add a thick slice of Havarti cheese, tomato and fresh greens. The stone ground wheat Multigrain bread encases it all. Great cold and definitely a hit off the panini grill.

Tempeh Sandwich – tempeh (the fermented soy product) is placed on a sun-dried tomato and cream cheese spread with avocado sometimes a substitute), tomato and mixed greens. This is also on a foccaccia bun.

Croissantwich – a Bubby Rose croissant filled with organic old cheddar cheese and tomato. grilled. Plain, simple and a real comfort food.

Then there are the “Savouries”:

Tortanos – whole wheat puff pastry filled and rolled into a bagel shape. The filling for the “regular” one is primarily potato blended with chickpeas, vegetables and mild curry. Delicious with our own peach chutney.
The Jamaican Tortano is a medley of yam, chickpeas, vegetables, coconut milk and jalepeno peppers. Medium spicy.
Both tortanos make a fine lunch with a bowl of soup. They are also great in a lunchbox!
